Howth and Portmarnock

Sunday was such a beautiful day, we decided to check out the Farmers Market in Howth and then take a stroll along the pier and see all the fish mongers too.

Took a drive up Howth Head and here is the view from up there. You can see the Bailey Lighthouse and across you can see Dublin Bay and further down into Wicklow.

Martello Tower in Portmarnock.

A view of Howth Head from Portmarnock Strand.

Just enjoyed the pattern on the sand!

Having fun watching this dog run into the water to fetch his ball.
(I miss my puppy)

The Irish Sea...........you'd have to be a brave soul to go in for a dip today

Dublin - The Docklands and more

Today we went downtown to take a look at the new bridges that have been constructed in Dublin.

Dermot crossing on a pedestrian bridge down in the Docklands.

A view of the new Beckett Bridge from the pedestrian bridge

This is the new Beckett Bridge just opened in December 2009. It looks like a harp and was designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava who designed another bridge which also crosses the River Liffey but it is down the other end of the river.

The glass building to the right is the new Convention Center Dublin that is due to open in September 2010.

Here is the other Calatrava bridge - The James Joyce Bridge.

The Famine Memorial

The Irish Famine Monuments is located on Custom House Quay and depicts sculptures of starving people walking towards the ships on the docks.
It was built in memory of those who left Ireland in hope of a better life.

Finally.......... after all this sightseeing, we went into the CHQ
which is an old converted merchant warehouse. It used to store tobacco and tea and in the cellars below they kept wine. Now you can rent it out for events.
I particularly liked the roof of the shopping center.
